The Shadow of the Sun by Abiogenisis The Shadow of the Sun by Abiogenisis
Life forms evolved for microgravity.

Two sentients shepherd a trio of flying life forms, who have angled their bodies towards the 'sun' for warmth.

In the far distance the forms of vast structures fill the sky.

No sentient living here has yet discovered their true nature.

Birds that don't need to be light, since there is little gravity.  So they look a bit like fish, and can be sentient.  Microgravity doesn't mean low density, that might explain the fairly small wings as well.  Since the word 'sun' is bracketed, it is probably artificial. Perhaps the three arms are linked to other arms by a membrane that is invisible from this point of view, keeping in the atmosphere.  I wonder if there ever is a night, or if they live in perpetual daylight. Might be a variation on the concept of Virga and Candescence, by Karl Schroeder, but it seems more like a convergence of ideas.
Some of the clouds seem behind the structures though, so probably the shell idea is wrong.
I wouldn't be surprised that if we turned our head around we would see a sky that fades to black; there has to be a thermodynamic sink somewhere, or the beings would not need to be heated, they would need to be cooled!
As many have said, lovely color. thanks for these beautiful visions.

This is one piece of art I'll always keep favorited, it reminds me of reading Carl Sagans cosmos where he had floaters, hunters and sinkers living on a Jupiter like planet.

Ive always been curious, is the one on the left wearing a harness?

Is it the aerosphere from the "Look to Windward" sci-fi novel from Iain M Banks ?
