Not trying to be all dark sounding but as much as this is strikingly beautiful, is it possible that it's actually dangerous? Like a harbinger of death. Like why are all the long spikes on its bottom? To scour the surface of planets to dig up nutrients? With the water coming of the top of it, do they cling to the bottom of the ocean and wait quietly till it comes time for it to feed? So many questions!

Not usually dangerous, but definitely depends on the personality of the individual. As a rule they avoid hurting other life-forms, but they are so big and powerful it can happen.
