The spirit Tallapunjil spends each rainy season gathering life from the fertile plains; fuel in her attempt at birthing her own Creation. But each year as the rainclouds draw back and the sun bakes the soil, this stillborn Creation, starved and incomplete, releases its energy back into the earth as the fires that mark the beginning of the dry.

Wedge-tailed eagles, which long ago learned of this cycle of gathering and destruction, roost on her ancient body each year to await the birth of fire, and swoop down on the myriad little creatures fleeing the advancing flames.

Definitely fantasy, unless the creature is a mad super advanced technological being...

It feels really mystical, like an ancient legend, yet the eagles on the picture and in the story make it seem like a real fact, this is so strange (in the good way).

Also, the white ground and dead black trees really make it look like a place devoured by a terrible fire, which add to this effect a lot (is it on purpose ? Or is it just white grass and I'm making this all up ?)

This is an indigenous Australian story! I love the depiction, the alien aetherial body of the spirit contrasting with the dry white plain.
I couldn't find info on the spirit (there's not much on a lot of them.) Do you know which tribe this story comes from?

I've always been a huge fan of ancient creation stories and this is a very marvellous one. (:

To me this sounds a bit like a tale about a vulcan wich breaks out every year and fertilize the grounds around it. Pretty interesting.

Is this somewhat part of your aliens culture?

dear Abiogenesis, i was wondering if i could use this spirit and the alien from your Second Instar peice in project called pantheon. its a short story/art/research project about lesser gods, demons, spirits and extra dimensions on earth. it will be in an almost documentary style with bios and facts about each god.

I'm in love with coloration and texture of seemingly monotone surfaces. So minimalistically stylish and still alive.

People like you inspire me to keep drawing. When I start thinking that there's nothing new to do and everything possible is already drawn it's a real relief to see something fresh.
