Thanks, the client wanted something asymmetrical and alien, but using largely existing technology so I tried to push it :P

a 43.32mm Gatling gun? wouldn't that actually class it as light tank that could put a world of hurt on a heavier tank by knocking out key components, eventually punching through its hull?

:iconabiogenisis:

I suppose that depends on what their REAL light tank is packing ;)

:iconmalgrumm:

that is true.........if its packing anything bigger than a 50-60mm gun then ill be surprised! the range for guns on a light tank are limited to upto 60mm at the most...........

Good sir, I have a 'real' light tank design packing a 75mm coilgun capable of reaching hypervelocity speeds that can fire quite rapidly in addition to a missile pod, plasma-laser ADS, a light secondary plasma laser cannon, and active electro-reactive armor composite. All powered by a fusion reactor.

A 'MBT' would be 90 tons of 185mm death spewing monster.

How do they build or shoot anything with not arms with hands or fingers or whatnot. Those spiked limbs don't seem they would be much applicable to the crafting task.

:iconkalgrost:

True enough. Those spiked limbs are really only used to help with locomotion or to prop themselves up for a higher vantage point (once useful on the scrubby plains where they went through their early development phase). Manipulation is accomplished via a set of six tentacles at the front of the head, covered here by the protective helmet plate. They can be seen more clearly here:

Now that looks wonderfully stylised, lots of subtle way, it's really well done, I really like the mech suit the Galkgrokst is wearing.

Those digital glyphs on the barrel armour are a fascinating detail. Reminds me of the binary symbols in the Arecibo message.

A brilliantly functional but somewhat unearthly design. Well done again.

How could it build this craft with it's stabbing arms

:iconkalgrost:

They use tentacles, which are located at the front of the head, here covered by a protective piece, for tool use and general manipulation. The arms are used to help haul them over rough terrain or to prop themselves up to get a higher vantage point--particularly useful in the shrubby plains of their early history.

Thanks!

I agree about humanoids. There's nothing wrong with humanoids--some of my best friends are humanoids--but I do like to see other designs myself.

Ah, the perils of convergent evolution.  I had designed an alien species of my own, the Cthon, back in the day, who had a very similar structure and (at least outward) physiology.  I'll have to review your site and see what more I can find on the Kalgrost and see how similar or different they really are. :D  Gotta love speculative xenobiology...

heh, just found all my old files on my species; aside from the outward 'serpent-like' body structure and tentacle-manipulators, they aren't that similar after all, after comparing them with what I had relocated and what I have found on your guys.  Your strict hierarchy would just confuse and bewilder them, as they operate under an extreme 'majority rules' governmental system...  I used to have a 'speculative xenology' website a long time ago, with several alien species detailed (compliments of some other people as well); are you aware of any sort of community or site like that currently around?  You sound like you have quite a lot on your species beyond what you just have on your DA page.

Cool! If you ever put up some stuff about your aliens, let me know.

As for your question, I'm afraid I don't know of any xenobiology groups--not that are active or accessible. It's been some time since I've looked, though. And thank you for the compliment! There's a lot worked up on the galkgrokst, and I'm glad that sense of depth comes through here.

Ooo, well made! I first thought that this was an unmanned (unkalgrosted?) vehicle, but then I saw the little entrance on the side. How do the kalgrost see where they're going? Cameras?

You got it. Visible above the barrel, on the front of the vehicle, and on the rear on one flank are some of the cameras used. Also, the extended stalk is topped with a high-resolution, multi-spectral imager.
