Artist's Comments
This is part of the pre-production art I am doing to prepare for a book project. I am working through this species piece by piece to get it as plausible and functional as I can. A link to what the creature looks like at present can be found here:

Though once called the MSI, I have decided to rename them the Birrin for now.
The Birrin have 4 eyes, but only three ever fully develop. The two short lower eyes can retract into pouches while hunting or walking though thick jungle, while only one of the upper eyes develops, migrating slightly towards the top of the head. This hugely elongated eye lets the Birrin see in all directions.
The creatures smell by sucking air into sacs on the side of the jaws, which contain olfactory organs.
A horny beak fringes the mouth and can be used to grip and tear the flesh of prey, whilst the smaller mobile claws inside the mouth flay the meat and ram it down the throat.

I particularly love the work that's obviously gone into these little critters - they're not just some human with a rubber mask, like a lot of others tend to be.
Perhaps I should take a bit of a lesson from you for crafting more aliens in the near future.
