This alien mother is taking her young child on a food gathering trip to the edge of her clan's territory. It is the end of the growing season and the tough dryland plants are sending out their large, robust seeds as the last of the rains leave the plains for months.
The plants stock their underground tubers with water and starches for their long hibernation, and it is these the alien mother is trying to find. However her child seems more intent on catching a large floating seed as it drifts past on the dry afternoon breeze.
That's is freakin' amazing! You did such a fabulous job; incredibly real/believable!

92% of the teenage population would die if Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister said it wasn't cool to breathe anymore. Put this in your signature if you're part of the 8% who would be watching and laughing their butts off.
wow, thats a great portrayal of "realistic" lifeforms on other worlds. i've seen an artbook with realistic aliens creatures and this would fit right in. awesome stuff!
MORE! ...er...Sorry...
I agree with Nemo Ramjet on this one.
You did an excilent job at creating something very unique and different from that of what we see on Earth.
Besides... Just because they're aliens doesn't mean they can't think in similar ways as ourselves. Heck, chances are that they deal with the same issues we do!

"...And I ask you, the parents: Have you ever tried turning off the tv... sitting down with your children... and hitting them?" -Bender, Futurama, season 4, ep.6: 'Bender Should Not Be Allowed on TV'
Another outstanding work, 'nuff said
Well, I would like to say something more than that
I like the subtext of evolutionary convergence in behaviour, that is, children of whatever sentient species will always be curious and ready to play.
The body covering intrigues me: is it feather-like?
This is fantastic! I love how you have their beak-like appendage seperate from the rest of the head. I also like the feathers going down the back and arms. You have great descriptions for your work. I would say that they're vital to getting the full impact. I really look forward to seeing more!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
